About the Beach
Amado Beach faces directly west and receives unobstructed Atlantic swell year-round — a rare consistency that has made it a benchmark surf destination in Portugal. Amado Surf Camp and Algarve Surf School, among the most established schools in southern Portugal, are based permanently at this beach.
Within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park, the beach has no permanent construction on its immediate perimeter — a prohibition enforced by park regulations that preserves an intact landscape of dunes and juniper scrub. The absence of concrete is this beach's greatest luxury.
The beach is in Bordeira parish, Aljezur municipality, about 15 km from Carrapateira. Free but limited parking at the top; seasonal beach facilities. Swell suitable for beginners in summer conditions; more technical in autumn and winter.
